My Mermaid gown – why I love it :x

Finally, UPS knocked on my door on a beautiful Monday morning, 4 weeks before my wedding and delivered my mermaid gown. I couldn’t wait to put on makeup or anything, so I immediately slipped it on and had these preview photos taken (so pardon the messy background and the unironed gown). Can you believe how happy I was that it fitted so well :D?

I ordered this gown from eBay and got it 16 days afterwards (pretty fast right?). Well, I said I was making my own gown and that’s still happening. The story goes back to 1 year ago. Last July, I had 1 gown tailored in Hanoi. I asked the tailor to make a simple mermaid gown with train. I said I did not want too many details or decorations. I showed them photos of what I expected. Yet when I received the gown, I was a little disappointed because the gown was not a tight-fit as I wanted, the mermaid shape was loose, more like an A-shape and the tailor added a lot more folds and beads, too. Too many folds, especially around the tummy make us look “fat” and heavy.

I brought that gown to Sweden and now I’ve cut it up to a great extent. I removed the whole back to make a almost-backless gown with only a few strings across. I cut the front to make it one-shoulder. I removed all the folds and put lace on top. I reshaped the lower part to make it more hugging. The work has not been done but I believe I can finish it! the only problem is my dear friend Alex told me it’s bad luck to make your own wedding gown :( This is something superstitious but I’d rather not take risk.

So I will use my hand-made gown for photoshooting only. And I ordered a new one from eBay, as my official wedding gown 😀 Since communication over the internet could be unreliable at times, I decided to stick to the seller’s original design and not change anything, just in case my idea would not get through and the gown would be another disaster…

Right now I am so happy it works. The gown is almost perfect, to my judgement. It has everything I required: Elegance  – the gown looks light and classy with a soft voile train.  Sexuality –  it’s really hugging (I love clothes that hug tight :D) so I can show some curves :p. Simplicity – something I always believe in – it comes with minimal folds and subtle beading, more complicated than an evening gown but nothing close to being “dramatic”.

I have never dreamt of myself in a big princess gown. “Girlie” is just not my style.  I like to look like a mature sexy lady instead :”> It’s funny when people always like to look young and cute, I can’t wait to grow a little older to pull off styles like Angelina Jolie’s.

Here’s the link for some new trends if you’re looking for gown designs. Personally I don’t like most of them because they are way too complicated with too many big folds, which makes these very tall and slim models suddenly look shorter and without much of a waist! What about not-so-tall, not-so-slim people like us ? But if you like big gowns and can pull it off, go for it!

  6. I was curious if you ever considered changing the
structure of your site? Its very well written; I love what youve
got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better.
Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or 2 images.
Maybe you could space it out better?
